Fashion for Charity
Modern Luxury magazine’s Fresh Faces of Fashion 2019 event was held last Thursday night in West Village, benefitting The Birthday Party Project, a nonprofit, which was hosted by Sean and Catherine Lowe.
The evening started with a cocktail hour with people floating around the various photobooths. It was followed by a fashion show paying tribute to this year’s “fresh faces” and West Village designers. Stores set up booths down the block. Paciugo offered guests cups of gelato, MYX Blend Bar set up assortments of lipsticks, the new app Vouch handed out yellow and orange roses, and The Birthday Party Project set up a booth to describe their mission.
The Birthday Party Project’s mission is “to celebrate the lives of homeless children and youth by partnering with homeless shelters and transitional housing agencies to provide birthday parties and gifts for all resident children between the ages of one and 18.” Shannon McAnulty is one of the nonprofit’s many “birthday enthusiasts,” volunteering as a party coordinator.
McAnulty said her favorite aspect of working with the nonprofit is being able to “bring an experience to children who have never celebrated a birthday and to [help them] forget their circumstances at home and to just be a kid again.”
Paige Chenault, founder of The Birthday Party Project, was inspired to “bring joy to homeless children through the magic of birthdays” when, seven years ago, she was on a flight and pregnant with her daughter. On the flight, she saw a photo of a struggling young boy from Haiti and realized he would never have birthday celebrations like the parties she would one day plan for her daughter. She then decided to bring this idea to life and partnered with Family Gateway, allowing the idea for her nonprofit to balloon.
The Birthday Party Project has now grown to celebrate over 8,500 birthdays in 15 cities from coast to coast. MYX Blend Bar, which also made an appearance at the event and handed out samples, offers the chance to create custom lipstick blends with unique names.
“Stay tuned. [We’re] opening another store in Texas,” Camille Kelly, MYX Manager, said.
Sean Lowe, a host of the event, was seen mingling with guests before walking onto the stage with his wife, Catherine, to emcee the fashion show.
“I’m so happy to have the chance to play a very small role for such a great cause,” Lowe said.
Sean Lowe and friend Austin Eudaly recently launched Vouch and promoted the dating app at Fresh Faces. Vouch CEO, Christiana Yebra, describes the former Bachelor star’s app as a safe and authentic way of online dating and social matchmaking.
“Friends can swipe with you. Whether you’re single or taken, you can engage with the app. Write notes about friends to vouch for them,” Yebra said.
Starting the fashion show, hosts Sean and Catherine Lowe introduced the “fresh faces,” newcomers to the spotlight in Dallas. There were designers, business professionals, restauranteurs and even the Marketing and Events Manager of Bumble. The “fresh faces” kicked off the fashion show by dancing and showing the audience their most serious “model faces” on the runway.
Catherine Lowe then had the chance to announce that she is also a new “fresh face.” She announced the launch of Lowe Concierge, a luxury pre-planning gifting service. Never forget a friend’s, loved one’s or family member’s gift because experts can select the perfect present for every celebration throughout the year.
“I want people to have gifts for their special days,” Lowe said.
Dallas’s Bachelor sweethearts made way for Campbell-Wagner Runway models to grace the runway in designs from Kendra Scott, LF The Brand, Lucky Jeans and more.
The 16-year-old model Olivia Starkweather wore designs from J. Crew, Banana Republic, Brooks Bros., Loft by Ann Taylor and Lorna Jane.
“For me, walking in Fresh Faces means bringing people together to support The Birthday Party Project while having fun and seeing what businesses have to offer in West Village,” Starkweather said.
